About The Boyos

Tom O'Brien

Guitar, 5-string bass, lead vocals

Since his first gig in a grammar school talent show, Tom takes great pride in delivering consistent top-notch quality performances.  For over 40 years, he has performed throughout New England as well as Florida, California, and Las Vegas.

He enjoys sitting in with friends in various pubs in Ireland and with friends, The Equator Band, at the Bugaloe Pier Bar at the Raddison Hotel on Palm Beach in Aruba.  Whether Irish music or Classic Rock , Tom will deliver a performance that all will enjoy.

Peter Malaquias

Drums, bodhran, percussion, lead and back up vocals

As a teenager Peter realized music, drums and percussion in particular, were a big part of his life. Through his early influences, Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa, along with later influences Neil Pert, Terry Bozio and Ansley Dunbar, Peter has developed a unique style sought by bands throughout New England.

A US Navy veteran, Peter is a founding member of O’Brien’s Boru. Also an accomplished vocalist, Peter has performed with former Billy Joel guitarist David Brown, members of Herb Reed and the Platters, Bobby Hebb, and currently performs with several bands in the Northshore area of Massachusetts.

Mike Lindberg

Tin whistle, banjo, saxophone, keyboards, percussion, back-up vocals ercussion, lead and back-up vocals

Mike, an accomplished musician playing many different instruments (and many more than he plays in this band!), has become a legend on the North Shore.

He is a Marine Corps veteran and was a member of the Marine Corps Band. Mike joined O’Brien’s Boru over 20 years ago, and his incredible versatility enables the band to continue to expand its set list. Just a few of Mike’s accomplishments include performing with David Brown, World Premier, and Groove Therapy.

Al Rice

5-string bass, 6-string guitar, vocals

Accomplished on both six-string and bass guitar, Al has been laying down the foundation on bass for O'Brien's Boru for the past 23 years. He began his musical journey at age 10, was fortunate to have some great teachers, and soon joined the neighborhood band. By age 14, he was regularly gigging in the local area. His love of all types of music and active participation in the local music scene continues to this day. For Al, it is all about the live performance and tasteful interaction with the other members.

Al also contributes his back-up vocals to help round out the sound of the band.
